According to Tappahannock-Essex Volunteer Fire Chief Paul Richardson, the department was alerted of smoke located in the lobby area in the Tappahannock Post Office around 9 o’clock Tuesday night.
Firemen discovered smoldering paper inside the lobby trash can. It was removed from the lobby and extinguished.
The Tappahannock Police Department and the State Fire Marshall’s office was notified.
