Warsaw, Va. — Northern Neck Electric Cooperative announces the appointment of Mary E. Reed to the co-op’s board of directors. Representing King George County, Reed was selected by the NNEC Nominating Committee and officially appointed by the board of directors at the May 27 board meeting.

A Registered Nurse for the past 25 years, Reed coordinates community care for the Department of Veterans Affairs. She earned her Associate of Applied Science in nursing from Germanna Community College, a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Averett University in Danville, Va., and a Master of Science in nursing education from Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Reed’s interest in serving on the NNEC Board of Directors is directly related to the co-op’s mission of service, stewardship and community. “As a director, I look forward to learning from others, participating in thoughtful discussions, and helping guide the decisions that support the long-term success of our cooperative,” she says. “I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to an organization that makes a meaningful difference in the lives of its members and the communities it serves.”

Reed serves as a member of the Virginia Nurses Association, Nurses Organization of Veterans Affairs, American Nurses Association, Women’s Health Committee and Nursing Education Committee. She is also an active member of Union Bell Baptist Church in Falmouth and serves as president of the Missionary Committee, Nurses Ministry, Culinary Committee and member of the Women’s Committee.

With family roots in King George County, Reed was born in Philadelphia, Pa., but her family moved to Virginia when she was young. She and her husband, Joseph, reside in King George and have a blended family of five daughters, one son and 12 grandchildren.

Reed’s name will appear on the ballot at the NNEC Annual Meeting in September.
