Six Richmond Public Schools are preparing to enter the second semester in January with a new no-phone policy, following mounting concerns about students’ safety and mental health.

The only other school division in the Richmond region to implement a no-phone policy is Hopewell City Public Schools. School leaders say it’s helping.

This fall, Charlottesville Public Schools effectively banned cellphone use by students, prompting pushback by some parents.
