Federal authorities believe carbon monoxide poisoning played a role in a deadly airplane crash Feb. 1, 2022, in Pittsylvania County.

The crash claimed the life of Jordi Adamez, 23, of Winter Garden, Florida, according to findings released last week by the National Transportation Safety Board.

The report made public Oct. 5 stated that interviews with friends and family of the pilot revealed that he was happy to have been hired by the operator, got along well with the company’s owner, and was pleased that the company’s airplanes were newer and better equipped than those at his previous surveying job.

With clear skies on a winter morning, the airplane departed Danville Regional Airport at about 10 a.m. Feb. 1, 2022. It was on an aerial surveying flight.

Data showed the airplane climbed to an altitude of about 2,300 feet before starting a descent about two minutes into the flight. A man operating a tractor nearby briefly saw the plane and told investigators it “came in flat” and was “not turning or spinning.”
