Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-7th, reported a hot start in fundraising for her 2025 gubernatorial bid, with more than $3.6 million in the bank in the first 48 days of her campaign.

Spanberger announced her candidacy for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination on Nov. 13, forgoing a bid for a fourth term in Congress. Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney announced his candidacy for governor three weeks later. The Democratic primary is scheduled in the spring of 2025.

Stoney’s campaign committee raised about $760,000 between his announcement on Dec. 4 and the end of the fourth quarter, said Kevin Zeithaml, senior adviser to the campaign.
