Gov. Glenn Youngkin is asking state agencies to show options for cutting a portion of their annual operating budgets, as the governor looks for potential savings in state government operations and money to pay for his priorities in the two-year budget he will propose next month.

The administration says it has not set “a strict numerical target” for spending reductions, but a state government source confirmed that some agencies have been given preliminary targets for cuts, including up to 10% at agencies under the Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security.
