15 th Annual Spanish Mackerel Tournament
They had a record number of boats this year, 97 registered.  Anglers reported rough seas early in the day with the wind subsiding and finishing out calm by the afternoon.  The captains meeting was held Friday night at DreamFields, where many new boats were registered and pre registered captains were able to check in. The annual tournament tees were once again a hit.  They had over 50 raffle prizes donated to the tournament from 26 local businesses.  Boats weighed in their 4 largest fish for a combined total. At the top of the leader board was Wayne Engelhart of New Kent aboard “PaPa’s Dream” with a total weight of 12.40 pounds. Englelhart also reeled in the biggest fish of the day winning the Calcutta with a citation 6.20 pound fish. In second place with a total weight of 10.35 pounds aboard “Reel Dirty” was Chad Moore. Allen Palmer aboard “Slip
Away” weighed in a total 10.05 pounds for a third place finish. Thomas Jenkins about the “High Yield” weighed in a total weight of 8.70 pounds for a fourth place finish. Rounding out the leader board with a total of 8.6 pound total was Johnny Jett.  The lady anglers had a great day as well. Dawn Darrall reeled in the winning fish weighing in at 1.73 pounds aboard the “Lively Hood”. In second place with a weight of 1.70 was Terri Deane aboard the “Miss Janie”.  In 3rd place with a fish weighing in at 1.65 pounds was Brooke Brandt with Team Blue Ridge Bank.
The junior anglers had a fun time out on the water too. “Lively Hood” produced another winning fish for James Forrester, weighing in at 2.75 pounds. Jack Sheppard aboard the “Real Thirsty” weighed in the 2nd place fish at 2.50 pounds. The Junior Angler leader board was rounded out with Thomas Major aboard the “Major Problem” weighing in his fish at 2.14 pounds.
